Trauma Infromed

Being trauma informed is vital to being an effective counsellor. With what we are learning about trauma, it is an ever-present in the counselling environment, whether it be individual counselling, couple’s counselling, group counselling or relationship counselling. Knowing this can help us understand what brought you into counselling whether you are ready to share what you went through or not.

Trauma can pull you out of the present and cause you to act in a way that is not in line with who you are as a person, often leaving you wondering, ‘why did I say that?’ or ‘why did I do that?’.

Often, in our heads we know what is going on and know appropriate responses. However, our bodies have already reacted and put us into a state of fight, flight, or freeze before we even know what is going on. This can have a massive impact on every aspect of our lives whether they be work, social or relational

There are ways to work on this and reduce the impact of trauma on our present day lives.
